Purpose:

To provide a foreign study opportunity for a young architect to explore, study and report on a significant architectural site and/or location. Subject of study must be one that can provide potential inspiration for integration into the State of Utah's built environment.

Award stipend will be the sum of Four Thousand Dollard ($4,000.00).
Stipend will be presented as part of the Design Awareness awards dinner.
Study to be completed by January 1, 2005.

Criteria:

  • Must be currently employed full-time in the field of architecture, with a minimum of three years total full-time work experience.
  • Must have completed educational requirements for licensure no longer than 10 years previoulsy.
  • Must reside in the State of Utah.
  • Must be a registered architect.
Submittal:
  • Submittal shall consist of no more than 5 pages of text and 5 pages of photographs or illustrations.
  • No electronic submittal will be accepted.
  • Submittal shall include work history, list of projects worked on and references.
  • State location to be visited
  • State reasons for selection of proposed site
  • Evaluate means and methods of incorporating study and ovservations back to the State of Utah
  • Describe proposed presentation method of the 2005 Design Awareness awards dinner. Reporting format will include a presentation.
  • Entrance fee of $25.00 must be included with submittal
Selection Process

Submittals shall be reviewed and reduced to a short list of candidates who will be required to participate in an oral presentation. Submissions are due by Monday, November 24, 2003 at 4:00 pm at the offices of VCBO Architecture, 524 South 600 East. A short list will be announced by December 8th, and interviews of the short list of candidates will be conducted in mid-December. A final selection will be announced by December 19th, 2003.
